Do you think the punishment fit the crime? Is this a criminal act or just kids being kids? Why do you think the school found it necessary to arrest the children involved? What message does it send to the rest of the school and the community? Is that a type of community and school you think would make model citizens? Why or why not?

  1. A…A Food Fight? And They ARRESTED kids for it?! They’re KIDS! Kids, ya’know, the things that grow into adults? THEY DO STUPID STUFF! They’re on the way of learning, and they have a knack for having fun. A food fight is nothing to arrest kids over, granted, you could suspend the kids who started it, but not just 20 at random! That’s just silly! Why they found it necessary? Pish Posh, that wasn’t necessary, they’re all just crazy and don’t know how to handle kids nowadays. I think they all need to just cool down and rethink what they did, KIIIIIDS. That’s…that’s perhaps the silliest thing I’ve heard all week. I’ll be sure to remember this.
I think that this little school is crazy and a bad example. What’re they going to do next? Send a kid to jail for coming into school late a day? For not turning in a homework once? For YAWNING DURING CLASS? Point is, the school is weird, and I’d get my kid out of there. The community, well, I don’t know. But the only ‘model citizen’ you get out of there is going to be a brainwashed dummy who just does what you say. No creativity whatsoever.

  2. I don't think the punishment fit the crime even though they did throw stuff like apples and oranges but there just kids. i dont think it is a criminal act unless they pin pointed it to one person in particular and severely hurt them. I think the only reason why the school found it suitable for these kids to go to jail was only because they threw an apple. I think it sends a message that the school thinks sending 11 year olds to jail is a more suitable punishment other then suspending or make them think about what the outcome could've been other then sending them to jail. i'm not to sure if that school would make model citizens only for the fact that if they think a childish act such as a food fight is illegal then no i dont think they will they'll give kids the wrong impression on the laws.

  3. I do not think these kids should have been put into jail just for a food fight. I mean kids all over the us are in food fights every day and you never hear of them being put in jail. They were just being kids they weren’t doing anything wrong other then getting there cafeteria a little messy. I have no clue why the school would want those kids arrested just give them a detention or suspend them there was no need for them to g to jail. I do not think they would make very good model citizens because they are sending kids to school just for throwing an apple.
I think this is a really stupid reason to send kids to jail we have food fights all over the country every day and this is the first time you hear about them sending the kids to jail for it. little kids should not be having to go to jail for a day just because they got in a food fight.

  4. No, I do not think that the punishment is for the crime. I think it is wrong they should have not even arrested them. Maybe like one or two detentions but there are no way they should have got arrested for a food fight at school. It is not a criminal act it is just kids being kids. They are going to whatever they can just to have fun. I have no idea why they even wanted them to get arrested all they had to do he make them quiet down or go get a principal or something. A lot of people are probably mad and thinks it’s stupid. I just honestly think it’s stupid.

I think that they went too far with the punishment; it was only a food fight maybe a suspension or detention for the kids who started it but going to jail for that is just ridiculous. It’s just kids being kids we are always looking for something funny to do. I have no idea why the school would want these kids to be arrest I mean they are only 11-15 years old and going to jail just for starting a food fight is just insane. I think it might make model citizens because it shows that they will be punished for doing anything bad. It sends a message that the school is not will punish kids that do things that are wrong.

  6. No I don’t think food fighting fit in going to jail for that. They cant tell me they have never done something small like that. Its really no different from getting into a food fight out of school, but I don’t hear people getting arrested for that! To me I believe this is kids just being kids. Kids really don’t have much fun in school so they kind of have to spice it up a bit. I guess this school wanted to have a food fight and eveyone took it out of propurtion.
The school found it necessary to arrest the kids because the kids stepped up and they didn’t know what to do about it. So they had to bring in people who could take care of it, someone the kids are kind of scared of. I think the message it sends is that everyone is so uptight and they cant really have fun. That you need to be more like adults than kids at school. No I don’t think I would make this community and school a modle of citizens. Only because they took everything so far and out of propurtion its dumb.

  7. Going to jail for a food fight is the most redicules thing that I have ever heaerd happening to other students. I mean I can understand a few days suspended from school, but come on a night in jail is way over the top. All it was is a couple of bone heads wanting to start something. I truly believe they had no right hand cuff them either. It was only food the worst thing that could happen is people getting head aches other than that I would like to see it. Now for the kids who were involved I can understand security trying to stop them, but the back up was too much. Why didn’t the other teachers try to stop them? Where were they, and the janitors, lunch workers, and the principle? There is a lot of staff so why did the secruity feel like callinmg in back up? Also for the kids that were arrested; some of them had to have been doing them for self defence like Shirlanda Sivles said about her daughter. Then there is the message that this school is saying to the community on how strict they are. I would not be surprised if parents did not start taking their kids out of that school. On the other hand think about what people think about the police and how brutal they treated the children. They made them get mug shots, and kept them in jail for like 4 hours. They took their job to way to far with these kids. Finally this might make some good citizens but I will never go there for I know that these kids will probably be too scrad to do anything

  8. I think the punishment was to harsh. I think this event was just because kids were being kids they are only 7th,8th, and 9th graders. Maybe the school thought that if they would arrest them that they new they wouldnt do it ever again.
I think that other schools will find this punishment to harsh also. Yes think the community will make model citizens because this community sounds very strict.

  9. I don't think that them throwing the kids in jail was the right way to go. I believe that yes they should have punished the kids because that was a very immature thing of the children to do, but putting them in jail is a punishment for a much higher crime. And yes the kids were just being kids. But at the same time they should have known whats right and whats wrong. I'm not to sure on why the school whould want to throw them in jail. Maybe to show them that you can't just go and do something because you think it would be fun or just funny. Because in the end there are consequences.

I personally wouldn't want to go to a school that does that. Even though they try and keep all the kids on there feet, I just believe that it would make it hard. I don't think that this happens very often over there, but i feel that they are a very strict school and that you wouldn't really have much freedom and would get yelled at for many things.

  10. I do not think that the punishment fit the crime. It was a food fight which is really nothing too serious. No body could have been killed. The school made too big of a deal out of this. It was also an unfair choice because they only arrested a select few students when i guarentee that every student who was in the lunch room at that time participated in the event. They also should have been taken to a juvenile home not a adult jail. Im sure many adults would be flipping out if they had to be in a jail for 8 hours. It is such a scary place to any body, especially younger kids. I mean they arent older then 15 ? Also they will probably be traumatized after being in there that long. Could possibly push them to be emotionally unstable? It was a complete stupid decision. The school probably arrested the students just to prove 'hey this is a no tolerance school'. But in the end i do not think they got good publicity from this. The parents responses that they gave pretty much say that it is an out rage, along with the rest of the community. Will it 'model citizens'? No? that really has nothing to do with the school. That job is up to the kids parents to make them good citizens.
