2/19/10 - Digital_Nation Question 5

Much of the video focused on education.

On one side there was the argument that technology and the distractions that it causes are having a negative effect on young people...poorer reading and writing skills and shorter attention spans.

On the other hand there was evidence that introducing technology into some schools has resulted in improved student attitudes, higher standardized test scores, and greater student achievement.

How do you think technology should be used in education?  What do you think school will be like in 5 or 10 years in terms of use of digital technology?

  1. i believe that education and tecnology should be used together but not all the time. I would get really irritated if i had to use the computer all the time. It would get really boring I mean it would not be that bad sometimes but doing it all the time would be really boring. I would get tired of it.

I think they would want it all to be on computers technology would be used in every class room all the time. We use it a lot already so i think that people are going to make it a 24/7 thing.

  2. I believe that technology brought into eductation was a great idea. I believe technology like laptops & computers really give an advanced learning opportunity. You can search, and get any information on the internet and get a lot of correct information if you are going to the correct sites.

Technology of the computers helps students out a lot during school. Most school books are online too, so if there would happen to be a shortage of classroom books you could just use a school laptop and look at the book online.

I also believe and think it would improve schools education if we could fundraise or just buy our own laptops to carry around school every day for our work. No school work could get lost, because it would be saved on the laptop.

  3. i think that kids and teens should only use technology for school when they have an essay to write, when they need to watcha movie, and when they need to do reaserch for a project or something. i do think that in 5 to 10 years most schools will be using all technology and no real books all computer books. and all kids will not be as able as we are know because they are not getting the full education like we are because they are all on computers all the time and get distracted very easy. i also think that they are going to struggle very much in the future with the education they are getting

  4. I think that technology should be used, but not to the point where we're getting rid of our school library, and reading books off the computer screen. In five or ten years i believe technology is going to be more advanced, as well as more used. Whether we like it or not i do believe there is going to be alot of change going on in the next few years with technology.

  5. Obviously, there’s technology everywhere and it’s definitely not going to change, it’s just going to keep improving. Technology in school is needed now days because in five to ten years from now, almost everything is going to be updated and newer things are going to be made and we need to be prepared for all the crazy technology. Kids and teenagers need to learn in new ways, just like generations in the past. Technology use in life is changing so technology needs to be kept updated in schools also. Most people complain about all this technology in school now, but in a few years once it gets improved and starts really working, people will be praising it.

  7. I think that technology should be used through everything in schools. There are so many things that will help us in the future by using technology. By having computers, it could help us with our school work so much. Teachers say that having computers they might have distractions; well there are so many other ways to get distractions that this isn't the only way. If people don't have computers, they will definetly be distracted by something else no doubt.
School is growing in technology every day. In about 5 to 10 years, I wouldn't be surprised if all students had computers instead of books; and smart boards instead of chalkboards and white boards.

  8. I am responding to what Alicia Kurtz had said. She said that using computers all of the time would be boring; but i beg to differ. I know that I personally carry about 4 books from class to class because I can never get to my locker between classes. I think that I would rather carry just one lab top around or go to a computer rather than carrying a bunch of books around with me.

  9. Response to Jordan Resse I would have to agree with you, i dont think they should get rid of the librarys. Technology is going to take over here in the next few years and everyone is going to take over, but i think we should keep the librarys so we can do things the old fashion way, and not just the new way.

  10. In response to Jordan Reese, I have to agree with her. I believe that the technology is way out of control in schools. I feel that schools are starting to rely to much on technology now. I don't think that we should get ride of our school libraries just because we have these awesome new online books. But as what Jordan said, technology is advancing and changing and we can't do anything about it. But I do feel that we should limit to the technology in schools.

  11. I agree with what Jordan Reese has to say. Technology is going to get more advanced, and with that happening the schools are going to go mre towards the technology side. & i also agree that we should keep our school library, it would be stupid to get rid of the library .

But i also disagree with Jordan. I believe that schools should also let kids read books off of the internet. It could be more benificial.

  12. In Responce to a Miss Katrina Patton, I agree completely!

We improve, get better, advance in our technology! We can't help it. We're just getting ready for bigger and better things. Otherwise, we might still be using rocks and sticks for fire.

  13. I agree with Rebecca that in about five or ten years all students will have computers instead of books. But I disagree that technology should be used with everything in school. I mean if kids are staring at computer screens all day its going to affect our eye sight in a negative way. Plus writing things out for instance like spelling words helps us learn better. Therefore I do not think computers should be used for everything in school.

  14. I agree to Kayla McClellab bring technology to the school you don't have to carry the book from all the classroom and with all the books that the book . But with all the laptops and the computer will down and people have problems and with signing on. So i am in the maybe but for most of the fact i agree.

  15. I agree with Katrina, as much as we use technology now it’s not going to change in the future. People will be praising it and thinking it was the best thing created.
