Mistakes, Oversights, Problems

One of the main purposes of the 9/11 Commission was to identify and correct mistakes that were occuring at all levels of the United States government and in private companies such as the airlines that allowed the hijackers to carry out thier attacks.

Think about what you have read and come up with a "Top 3 List" of the worst mistakes, oversights, and/or problems that made you think "that should have been fixed," or ""that should have never happened," or even "WHAT WERE WE THINKING?!?!?".

Post a single comment with your "Top 3" list in order from least important (3) to most important (1).

I was in second grade... Mr. Mitchels class. he turned on the tv and we started to watch the news. Him and the teacher next door to us dont remember her name open up the wall that divided the room. well it was practically recess for us kids bc we didnt really get what was goin on. while him and the next door teacher discused with each other parents were calling and getting there kids out of school. I was like the 5th one to leave out of my class and then as i went home my sister theresa was telling me what happend. It was the topic at the dinner table for the next couple of weeks.

  2. Through the whole book we made many mistakes. But the top three in my opinion, would have to be not being very great at checking people going through the lines, not informing the the other planes and also the people of the united states, and not sharing information with each other to try to stop it or fix it they just kept it to themselves.

  3. 1.one thig that should have never had happened, was letting the terrorist board the plane with weapons.

    2. another mistake we made was that we knew there was going to be an attack, and we didnt do anythig to prevent it from happening.

    3. finnaly, there should have been faster communication between the planes to prevent the terrorist from taking controll of the planes.

  4. I believe the biggest mistakes were:

    1. We basiaclly knew that the terrorists were planning something to do, any yet we didn't try to prevent it from happening.

    2. There was slow communication between everyone, no one knew what was going on. No one had answers as to what was happening.

    3. Even though some terrorists seemed suspicious, flight attendents just ignored it and let them on the planes.

  5. 1. they should of not let the terrorist on the plane with weapons.

2.we knew about that attack but didnt doo nothing about it.

    3.needed better communication

  6. I was in second grade, but i'm not sure what class I was in. I remember my mom getting me and my sister both out of school and I kept asking her what was going on but she just kept telling me we'd talk about it at home. Once we finally got home and my father got there we all sat down and they told us what was going on. My whole family talked about it for weeks.

  7. 9/11 just showed how many holes our government had. The first thing that they did was that no organization shared their information with the other organizations. Then no one at the white house knew what was going on until they watched CNN. It took them over 2 hours to get a meeting together. even when they got the meeting together they did not get the right people from the FAA. Thrid the FBI did not get an agent that did not know how to translate Arabic. so no matter informatiopn they got it was useless because they did not know how to read it.

  9. We didnt do a very good job from stoping this from happening. The 3 top I would have to say we didnt do so well on was the metal detectors didnt even work. The Terrorist just walked right in and didnt go off. The next thing I would have to say is we didnt give all the information to eachother or else we think there could have been a big chance that 9/11 could have been stoped. and the third one is we should of had better plans to prevent this from happening.

  10. I think that the top 3 big mistakes were:

    1) We knew Al Qaeda was planning some thing years before the 9/11 attack and we did nothing. So that shows much on our end.

    2) When the security guard didnt check the bags. I mean we get our bags checked in school ? Common sense. Some thing set that alarm off.

3)Our communication skills were very weak.

  11. One STUPID thing that our airport security made was not checking the peoples bags and stuff after the medal detectors went off. Didnt scan them with a wand NOTHING. makes me mad because this could of prevented a lot. Another mistake that was made was no one was alerted about the hijacking of the first plane until 8:47.

  12. 1. we had faulty equipment
    2. we had plane police on planes. but the wrong planes.
    3. we had chances to take down bin laden but didnt even try.

  13. 1. I don't understand why we didn't take action sooner knowing that something was going to happen in the future.
    2. I also didn't understand why we didn't look into this more being that this was one of the most dangerous terrorists that we knew of.
    3. When this happened, the president was not even notified ASAP!

    My top three? Easy.

    1. COMMUNICATION! That bugged me the ENTIRE book! No one was talking to the other groups, CIA and FBI wouldnt share information like a bunch of little kids! It was ridiculous! With the radio issues, that i could understand, but c'mon people! TRY TALKING TO ONE ANOTHER.

    2. When we had the chance to strike, to take down a HUGE threat... we never did it. Why? Because people kept coming up with stupid excuses not to for whatever reason...stand up for yourself! take a chance!

    3. I was just mad at the airports.... DONT. LET. PEOPLE. WITH. KNIVES. THROUGH. Simple as that.

    ReplyDelete
  15. 1.Is why wouldnt the airport do something before then did they knew it was coming.
2.Is when we had the chance to catch or kill Bin Laden why did we
    3. Is why did they do it to did most of the people on the planes sit there and it go it the world trade center why didnt they go and attack like flight 93

That we really didnt have great communication between the FBI and the CIA.That we should have treated terrorism more then we did. Last we should have knew that Al Qaeda was planning an attack.

  17. 1.why we knew that something like this was going to happen and we didnt do anything about it.
2.not checking the terriost bags that they had with knives, and how they made it threw the meddel detectors with them.
    3. we did not tell the people in the other tower to evacuate when the first tower was hit. they could have had a chance to live but we did not try and evacuate them sooner
