Current Events Week 1 American News

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/28/health/28flu.html?_r=1&ref=us

This article is about the swine flu, and the large amounts of people that are lining up for the swine flu vaccine. People are being turned because they are trying to save the vaccine for children, but now people are lying in order to get vaccinated. Is there a right or wrong way to distribute the vaccine? What would you do if you were faced with the decision of choosing who gets the flu vaccination.

  1. If i was faced with the decision of who gets the vaccine i would say every body because the swine flu affects every body not just one age group. I would maybe start splitting the dosages up or something to prevent the spreading of swine and to stop more people from getting. As for the people who are lying, well id lie to if i was an adult because i dont want to get a illness this serious.

  2. I do not think that it is right for people to sit there and lie about it. Children that are between 5 and 25 have the most risk of getting the H1N1. Also that vaccine is expensive. It is 145 dollars per shot. Thats a lot of money that we are using to try to keep this from spreading. So we don't need to be using it on people that don't have a huge risk of getting it.

If i was faced with a decision, I would only give the vaccine to the people who have the most risk of getting it. Like i said above. The vaccine cost a lot and we don't have enough for everyone. We need to get this to end.

  4. i think that the doctors should give out the vaccine to children and pregnit women first because they are the ones who get it more then adults do!! if i was chosen to decide who gets the shot i would say all the babys threw teenagers get them first, then pregnit woman, then the older people over 50..... and then all the other adults. i would choose that way because the people who get the illness immune to it should get it first then the people who are less immune to it.

  5. Ah, the now famous Swine flu. Well, I suppose my thoughts are a little more morbid than the normal person, but I say they just give the vaccine to EVERYONE and ANYONE that shows up and wants one. It’s basically fair, first come first served. People die every day; people just got to accept it. Sure if my mom died I’d be depressed and sad, but I’d eventually have to accept it and move on. We aren’t immortal, everyone’s got to die.
If I were handing out the vaccines, and was posed with the question on, ‘give it to the sick kid, or the physically tip top shaped adult’ Sick kid it is. But if the adult showed up FIRST, they’d get it. Just how I am. Whoever shows up first gets it! So everyone just get in line and wait your turn!

I think it is wrong to turn people down from getting the shot. I think that the people that are most likely to get the swine flu should be the ones that get the shot.
