Haiti Relief Effort

Aid in response the earthquake in Haiti has begun pouring in from around the world.  Unfortunately, as we have seen in other disasters such Hurricane Katrina, the aid cannot arrive fast enough.

Read this article.  What types of relief supplies are on the ground but not getting to the people of Haiti?  Why the delay?

  1. I, myself, don't understand why we are not getting the help for these people fast enough. We as a country made up the 3 million dollars to help the people over in Hati out but yet they're still not getting the help they need. They send an aircraft over about 25 times a day sending baby formula, medicine, and other needs the need and yet they are still in trouble. But the problem here is that we don't even have the money here to help them out. But by making over 3 million dollars for them and sending over endless loads of needs for them, they should get those things instead of putting them in storage.

  3. Why do we care? As far as im concerned Haiti can find a country that isnt 14 trillion dollars in debt to help them. maybe instead of sending mllions of dollars to other countries we could work on our own problems

  4. The types of relief supplies are like food things, water, medical things and baby supplies: typical things for trying to survive.

There is a big delay however due to the citys north pier being completely unusable and the south pier which is the smallest of the two is slowly starting to operate better.

There use to be 120-140 flights coming in each day before the earh quake and now only around 25 flights can make it in to deliver supplies. Although things are moving a little quicker, there are still long lists of flights with supplies that are waiting to be made.

  5. stacks of aid, baby formula, food, water, pain medication, antibiotics are some of the supplies that are not going to Haiti but is on the ground but not getting ot the people. More the earthquakes the more the delay of help to get the supplies to the people. Its really hard for our people to help get the supplies to them when we have to keep getting interuped by the earthquaks, and then going out to help them who have got burried. They are also trying to open up a airway to get the supplies over there.

  6. Food, water, medical supplies, baby formula, all kinds of important things are being delayed! And WHY? Because traffic’s backed up. WAAAAAAY up. Planes are landing left and right, bringing all kinds of stuff the people need, but distributing it is near impossible. Doesn’t help the harbor is destroyed so no boats can get in either.
Because of this, people are DYING out there. But at least some medical supplies are being air-dropped down below.

  7. Some supplies that are needed but are not able to get to Haiti are: baby formula, pain medication, antibiotics and other much-needed supplies. These supplies are not able to get to Haiti "But that kind of infrastructure just isn't in place." says Air Force Col. Ben McMullen. Even though those supplies are not getting to Haiti right now, they are working on it constantly. In the mean time, over $355 Million have been donated by the United States. So, volunteers and others are working on giving what they can while they can

  8. There are tons of different supplies that is on ground near Haiti but, there isn't much help to get the supplies to the people because they are coming in big packages to a small town. Also, there is really no place to keep the supplies seeing that Haiti is filled with debre and such that needs to be cleaned out before bringing supplies in.
